Reporting to the US-based Director of Accounting & Controller, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert for our UK operations, ensuring financial integrity and compliance across international borders. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional capable of managing day-to-day bookkeeping while navigating the complexities of both UK and US GAAP requirements. This is a critical role in supporting our global expansion and maintaining a robust financial foundation for our international team.

Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Entity Accounting: Own the end-to-end accounting process for the UK entity, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, cash receipts, customer invoicing and general ledger maintenance. Coordination with US-based Accounting & Finance team to release payments.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the UK entity, ensuring strict adherence to UK GAAP and alignment with US GAAP for group consolidation.
  • Tax & Statutory Filing: Partner with an external accounting firm to manage VAT filings, Corporation Tax returns, and ensure all Companies House filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Intercompany Reconciliations: Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances between the UK entity and the US parent company.
  • Audit Support: Act as the primary point of contact for UK-based audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial records and internal controls. Assist with the annual consolidated US Audit process.
  • Process Optimization: Implement and refine accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting.
  • Cash Management: Monitor local cash flow, manage bank reconciliations, and provide regular forecasts to the Director of FP&A to support global liquidity planning.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with specific expertise in managing the books for a UK-based subsidiary of a US corporation.
  • GAAP Expertise: Deep working knowledge of International GAAP (mainly UK and EU) and a strong understanding of US GAAP requirements.
  • Industry Expertise: Experience working with events, marketing, media, or professional services industries a plus.
  • Professional Certification: ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualification would be beneficial.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level Excel skills and experience with cloud-based ERP systems (experience with Xero or Sage Intacct is a strong plus).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for senior management.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different time zones and functions.
  • Attention to Detail: An extreme attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of financial accuracy.
  • Investor Reporting and Support: partner with Directors of Accounting & FP&A to supply needed information for investor reporting and updates.
