In-person Instructor, Data Science and Data Literacy (part-time contract)

About the Role:
Are you passionate about teaching and sharing your real-world experience in data science and AI and based in Toronto, Canada? Join Data Society as a part-time, in-person Data Science and Data Literacy Instructor and help professionals gain the skills they need to transform their careers and industries.
As an independent contractor, you’ll enjoy the flexibility to teach subjects you’re passionate about while being supported by a collaborative and communicative team. You’ll lead engaging, interactive sessions for professionals across industries and skill levels, helping them understand how to apply data science, machine learning, and AI in practical, impactful ways. Your role is not just to instruct, but to inspire—creating a positive and supportive learning environment where learners leave empowered and ready to act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-impact, engaging instruction to corporate professionals through in-person training sessions, focused on practical, job-ready data skills.
- Teach core upskilling topics including Data Literacy Foundations, Responsible Data Access, Data Visualization and Analysis in Excel, Power BI Fundamentals, Advanced Power BI, and Python Basics, tailored to real-world business use cases.
- Translate complex data concepts into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making across business, technical, and executive audiences.
- Prepare thoroughly for each course by reviewing curriculum content, business scenarios, datasets, and hands-on exercises aligned to corporate workflows.
- Collaborate with instructional designers, data scientists, and program managers to continuously refine content to meet evolving corporate skill demands.
- Gather and communicate learner and stakeholder feedback to improve training effectiveness, learner outcomes, and program scalability.
- Partner with client stakeholders to identify additional upskilling needs and opportunities for expanded or customized training programs.
What You Bring:
You’re a practitioner-educator who understands how data skills drive business and can use your dynamic speaking skills to help professionals find their voice with data. You enjoy helping professionals build confidence using data in their day-to-day roles and are comfortable teaching cross-functional teams, managers, and executives in fast-paced corporate environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional experience in a data-focused role within a corporate or enterprise environment.
- Must be based in greater Toronto with the ability to teach in person for a Canadian organization.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
- Data Literacy and Analytics for Business Decision-Making
- Responsible Data Access, Data Governance, and Ethical Data Use
- Data Visualization and Analysis in Excel (dashboards, reporting, business metrics)
- Power BI (data modeling, DAX fundamentals, interactive dashboards)
- Python Basics for data analysis and automation
- Experience delivering training, workshops, or enablement programs for adult learners in professional or corporate settings.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills; comfortable engaging senior leaders, managers, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience supporting enterprise-wide upskilling or digital transformation initiatives.
- Ability to adapt content for different roles (business users, analysts, technical teams).
